The Crisis of Post-Spectacle "Live" Contemporary Ambient Performance

http://www.comatonse.com/listening/crisis.html

this link leads to an older (1997) essay by terre thaemlitz that quotes Attali's Noise in much the same way that Kim's new article does. there are a number of differences in the two approaches taken, however. let's discuss...

example from terre's text (properly quoted), on DJ culture...

"The listener's act of consumption no longer emphasizes the traditionally Modernist fetishization of a producer's creative output. Rather, it reflects a tertiary commodification of the DJ's selection and performance of other producers' outputs as the ultimate in informed commodity fetishism."

i wonder what T.T. would have to say about the laptop as fetish item... as opposed to a lapdance fetish...

later.
