why do allways have to think in scemes? progress?
you first need to define what progress is.
if will want to see preogress in music you will find a certain nerative
(historical or non historical) which will show this progress. all those
ways of describing the changes in music r not inherent to the music it
self. it comes out from you.
progress and music?

hisotry (even of music) will allways be moe complex and serious than: 
seeing progress as linear or rectangle or whatever. if u want to make
sense and really say something u need to make your own mechanism which
will be smarter more aqurate and should show a new way of thinking and
see both history and music.
