liquid architecture 3 (melbourne)
LIQUID ARCHITECTURE 3 runs in Melbourne over three weeks commencing Tuesday
July 2nd, and closes on Saturday July 20th. It comprises 3 separate gallery
exhibitions, 3 evenings of concerts and/or screenings, plus 2 days across
which 6 unpublished papers will be presented.
Progressing into its third year, LIQUID ARCHITECTURE is a sound art festival
that involves a diverse selection of artists, with varying modes of
practice, in order to further develop the culture and artistic environment
for sound art and artists. LIQUID ARCHITECTURE 3 includes sound installation
art, an electroacoustic and acousmatic surround sound concert, live
electronic music performance, an audio-visual screening and artist
presentations covering a range of topics including turntablism, public sound
installation, software for improvised performance, the physical effects of
particular frequencies, and critical theory.
Inclusive in nature, LIQUID ARCHITECTURE 3 promises to test the limits of
both the medium and the audience, by blurring the boundaries between art and
music, performance and listening, and academic and popular culture.
Conceived, produced by and featuring emerging local artists from the
((tRansMIT)) sound collective, the festival is the means for them to develop
and nurture a sustainable local presence, and through their interstate and
international guests, create links through which they can continue to grow.
LIQUID ARCHITECTURE is about expanding audiences for the appreciation of
sound art. Previous years guests have represented:
~ Popular electronic music.
~ Film/video scoring and sound design.
~ Interactive sound installation.
~ Post Industrial Underground Noise and Computer music performance.
~ Sound Art performance and Experimental music concepts and theory.
~ Academic research and historical study.
