i think i agree with the first part, that there needs to be more nurturing.
about the second part though, somebody doesn't necessarily need to have been
manipulated by the media in order to be subject to this type of
romanticization. or maybe we all are *irreversably tainted*. i'm talking
about a person who simply wishes to engage themselves in a way that is more
along such and such lines (laptop, non-performance, playing a calculator
with a contact mic on it, etc), and who will be emotionally touched by
seeing another person doing this, this thing that they want to experience
for themselves. heck, even having a desire to NOT do something like watch,
or be, *a regular performer*, constitutes an emotional reaction.

sorry, maybe i'm on the wrong list. this has little to do with music
now...but it does for me, address the very difficult question of what people
mean when they talk about pure intellect as it relates to art.
