That's what my friend calls complex feedback loops.  Basiclly you take a whole 
bunch of mixers and connect all of the outputs to the inputs.  You have some 
sound source like a tape deck, microphone, turntable.  It's rather remarkable.  
I think the largest one we made had 4 mixers and a tapedeck.
