Re: [microsound] On the benefits/disadvantages of CDR as a medium for distributing music...
i think CDR labels and .mp3 labels are creating a new "cassette culture"
type of field, it think its wonderful, regardless if the packaging is
printed at home, or better yet handmade, or is printed at a press, it
represents a group of people that are doing for he love of the music and the
art that they are passionate about. as aposed to the major record labels
putting out pop cds for a profit.
heres my main concern with CDR labels: CDR's are not as stable as CD's, the
lifetime of the release is much shorter than that of a regular CD, and CDR
release's come in smaller quantities than CD's so your less likely to find
another copy of the music later on when the CDR doesnt work anymore.
and the idiot that made the statement about "not bothering with CDR's and
MP3's" i can promise has never put out a CD or he would know that its not as
cheap as he boasts... ive put out CD's, Records, Cassettes,,,, none of its
cheap, and in this field you less likely to make your money back unless your
a big name.
