hi, i'm Stefano (aka Urkuma)
when i read your mail in the list i said that is unbelivable; a sonorous tribute to Tarkovsky!? great!!! i was affected by this director and i made a sound-interpretation of the only Tarkovsky's film that i ever seen(one year ago) "The Steamroller and the Violin" (in italian:Il rullo compressore e il violino-1960), this was the first of a retrospective in my city (Lecce-italy) but the day after the cinema burnt, and i never had the possibility to see others Tarkovsky's films.
please, can you said to me when your cd is ready?
and please, can you give me your opinion about my sound-interpretation of "The Steamroller and the Violin", i put mp3 in this page of my site : http://www.sanfocahotel.com/hiddenmp3.htm
thanks for your attention
ciao
stefano
P.S: sorry for my english

I haven't seen the new one yet, but yes, Tarkovsky's adaptations of books
were a bit personalized and probably weren't intended to be very
faithful to the original novels. In fact, he really didn't like the
sci-fi aspect of the certain stories he made films about because he felt
that the elements were too distracting from what he was trying to convey
on the screen, so he minimized those aspects. Later, he regretted not
having done away with them all together. So yes, two different
approaches. This would also partially explain the "low-budget" feel to
the sci-fi elements in his films.
And not to be predictable and to sound opportunistic... ;-) but I do
wish to mention that for those who haven't seen the and/OAR website over
the past few months, it has made mention of an upcoming Tarkovsky
dedication disc that is slated in January to feature some very fine
artists: Ven Voisey (v.v.), Yannick Dauby, sawako, logoplasm, Phillip
Pietruschka & Matthew Davis, Jon Tulchin, & mysef as well. Each person
has chosen a film to use as inspiration for a soundwork. I have been
working in coordination with Trond Trondson of the Nostalghia website to
help procure permission for the usage of film images (Criterion). It's an
idea I've had for a long time, I'm looking forward to finally seeing it
materialize.
Best, Dale
