Re: [microsound] hidden from the audience
Hello,
I have a question to raise, in light of past
discussions about 'gestural theatre':
If a specialized light show is just another spectacle,
and it is done away with, possibly opting for a
darkened space or something more neutral in terms its
being a visual spectacle,
how do people feel about a situation where someone
plays back and does some very slight mixing to an
entirley sequenced and/or prerecorded set?
I know some people would find paying for such an
experience unnacceptable in light of the fact that one
can purchase recordings and listen to them at home.
But I was thinking that a performance
(pre-sequenced/recorded)done in a context of a venue,
gallery, bar, whatever is not the same as being at
home, and might derive some expressive power through
its contextualization in a space that is an
alternative to the home listening environment.
Does anybody have any thoughts on this issue?
I was also thinking of how a blindfolded (or simply
where the performer is 'invisible') audience might
respond to something they know is
pre-sequenced/recorded as opposed to something they
know (via prior verbal explanation) to be improvised.
