Phil,

That sounds like a "Wallstreet".  Many people have had
great success with that rig.  I've got one, seen lots of
them used at shows.   I've not run max/msp on it
but Ben could let you know how it performs on it.
I could easily get 24 tracks of looped material
playing off it with Digital Performer.  If the price
is right then do it.   The only hurdle is USB/FW
which you can get PCMIA cards for.

ps mine is still for sale with the broken hinge,
with USB/FW cards.
