MD works reasonably well but does not give you DAT-quality recordings (I
have portables of both types). It can also be hard to set the levels on a
small portaable consumer MD.
If you plan to use lossy compression (AAC, MP3) on your recordings you
should be aware that MD includes its own form of lossy compression and that
repeated encoding/decoding (first MD, then MP3...) can suck the musical life
out of even german schlagers ... apart from this MD is a very nice format.
