I have a hard time agreeing with this. It is just un-true. I have a
close friend whose entire financial support system is based on his
personal use of the copyright system. He is a lyricist and writer,
and without copyright law he just would not get paid. He is just some
guy who happened to write some songs for a band that just happened to
become wildly successful, and so he can live off of his meager points
on the record sales. Hooray for him. Copyright laws protect him.
Otherwise, Sony (who evidently just bought up all the rights to
anything YMO) would merely stop paying him.
This is just one example. Obviously this is a more complicated issue.
