For me the ultimate unfulfilled sci-fi epic masterpiece would be
Jodorowsky's Dune. Supposedly the project involved at one time or another
Salvador Dali, H.R. Giger, Mobius, and others (rumors of Orson Welles or
Mick Jagger). According to Jodorowsky:
"A vital aspect for me: each planet had its style of music, for example a
group like Magma could realize the Harkonnen warrior rhythms which would be
capable of cristallizing the beauty of the sand planet with its mystery and
its implacable force, the strange symphony of rings of giant worms.
Virgin Records met with us and offered us Gong, Mike Oldfield, Tangerine
Dream. At this moment I say: "And why not Pink Floyd?""

These things are probably better left to the imagination huh?
PS: those of you mumbling about progrock just think of how outdated an Aphex
Twin/Chris Cunningham Neuromancer would seem by.....oh, right about now.
