Sara Hornbacher has worked in electronic imaging for over twenty years. She=
 executed her first site-specific room environments and installations envir=
onments utilizing electronic imaging in 1975.

Hornbacher is a member of the second generation of video artists - those wh=
o studied with the first pioneers of this medium or followed in their wake.=
 Hornbacher's peer group includes, Gary Hill, Bill Viola, Peer Bode, and ot=
hers who began working in video in NYS during a fifteen-year period of gene=
rous support for this artistic medium provided by the New York State Counci=
l on the Arts and The National Endowment for the Arts.

>From 1982 - 1994, Hornbacher lived and worked in New York City where she es=
tablished her artistic career and an extensive vitae. Her single channel vi=
deo work has been widely shown throughout the USA, in Europe and Japan. In =
1994, she moved to Atlanta, to accept the position as Video Chair at The At=
lanta College of Art and has been exhibiting her work there, showing Video =
Installation environments, sculptural video works and digital photographs. =
In 2002 she was awarded a KBFUS (King Baudouin Foundation United States) cu=
ltural exchange grant that brought her to Belgium. She has received numerou=
s creative production grants throughout her career.

"As an interdisciplinary artist, I am working on a variety of scales to cre=
ate immersive, large-scale, luminous environments as well as smaller sculpt=
ural pieces that incorporate electronic elements. This work provides a mean=
s to act out conceptual responses to contemporary issues in culture and att=
empts to bridge the gap between artistic disciplines. Many of these project=
s are shaped by their site-specific location."

Sara Hornbacher werkt al meer dan 20 jaar met elektronische beeldtechniek. =
Zij realiseerde haar eerste ruimtelijke in situ omgevingen en installaties =
met elektronische beeldtechnieken in 1975.

Hornbacher maakt deel uit van de tweede generatie videokunstenaars - zij di=
e met de eerste pioniers studeerden of in hun sporen traden. Deze groep tel=
t naast Hornbacher kunstenaars als Gary Hill, Bill Viola, Peer Bode, en and=
eren die in de staat New York 15 jaar lang beroep konden doen op de steun v=
an de New York State Council on the Arts en The National Endowment for the =
Arts.

Van 1982 tot 1994 leefde en werkte Hornbacher in New York City waar zij haa=
r artistieke loopbaan en een uitgebreid curriculum vorm gaf. Haar single ch=
annel videowerk werd veelvuldig getoond in de VS, Europa en Japan. In 1994 =
verhuisde zij naar Atlanta om er de post van Video Chair aan het Atlanta Co=
llege of Art te bekleden, zij stelde er ook haar werk tentoon, in de vorm v=
an Video Installatie omgevingen, sculpturale videowerken en digitale fotogr=
afie. In 2002 ontving zij een KBFUS (King Baudouin Foundation United States=
) beurs voor=20culturele uitwisseling, waarmee zij naar Belgi=EB reisde. Zij o=
ntving talloze beurzen voor creatieve producties doorheen haar loopbaan.

 zowel omvattende, grootschalige lichtomgevingen als kleinere sculpturale w=
erken te scheppen, waarin elektronische elementen worden verwerkt. Dit werk=
 laat toe conceptuele antwoorden te geven op hedendaagse culturele onderwer=
pen en probeert een brug te slaan tussen verschillende artistieke disciplin=
es. Veel van deze projecten worden vormelijk bepaald door hun specifieke lo=
catie."
