about the artists
William Meadows (from Dripping Springs)
William Meadows has been composing and performing
electronic music for longer than he would care to admit. His works have
been presented in concerts, conferences and radio programs throughout the
country. This performance will feature audio clips from interviews and
readings by John Cage provide the framework for a structured exploration of
processed guitar. The recorded excerpts serve as landmarks within a live
electronic soundscape created entirely on guitar modified by the Kyma Sound
Design system.
Susan Alcorn (from Houston) - THE FIRST NOTE
A solo pedal steel performance by this Houston artist. Susan Alcorn began
playing the pedal steel guitar over 25 years ago, and in that time has
evolved into a musician/composer of such rare inspiration that her music has
redefined, for many, the very perception of the instrument itself.
"For this performance, I will improvise and perhaps
perform written music, but I don't know what I am
going to play, and I won't know until I listen and
then play the first note or sound (and the first note
sounded a long time ago), then the path for my time
will be laid out, though not necessarily followed."
Alex Keller (recently from Seattle)
Alex Keller creates work in different mediums: sound design, experimental
sound art, traditional music composition, and performance. His work explores
formal ideas of narrative in music and sound, investigates the relationship
between an authentic sound event and a recorded one, and uses different
experimental production techniques.
"At my first performance in Austin I will premiere a new piece called
Bonneville. Like several pieces from the last few years, Bonneville works
with organic structures created by inorganic sounds."
