RE: [microsound] Max/MSP for Windows

I use both, happily. For instance, if I'm doing installation work, I
like PD because I don't have to purchase a new copy of Max/MSP, I can
use Linux and PD for free. But the TCL/TK dependence needs to go away.

Another option is to use flashserver
(http://www.akustische-kunst.org/puredata/flash/flash.html) and create
your front-end in Flash. You can also use paradiddle
(http://homepage.mac.com/atl/pd/paradiddle.html) to create a lovely
Cocoa interface if you're a Mac OS X user. Some very nice alternatives.
I've used Director + TCP/IP to crosstalk between Max & PD with success
as well.

Of course, these are interface enhancements, and not replacements for
the generally ugly text-box patching interface that both programs share.
Max/MSP is clearly superior in this regard, with routable wires and
alignment tools, but they both are pretty old-fashioned looking/feeling
when compared to something like Reaktor.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program. What's everyone
listening to right now?
