AFAIK latency issues are more serious with audio over the internet than MIDI.

I did a little informal joined performance here in Montreal once when we 
organized a PD fest.  I had Sintheta (Dave MacCallum) from Toronto streaming 
some audio via shoutcast and I would capture it within PD, sample and mangle 
it and stream back the mix to the website where a video and audio was 
provided for those who wanted to 'attend' and could not make it to Montreal.

Forget sync over cable connection.  But taking the lag into consideration 
could yield potentially interesting results.
