Related to these, I've been pondering something related to the droplifting
project, though involving p2p file sharing rather than physical media such
as cds. Very very briefly:
A heap of mp3's that outwardly resemble (file name, size, id3 tag, etc)
mp3's of popular songs (or, indeed, any songs) are shared by many users on a
file sharing service like Kazaa (one that assembles data from many users
into a single file). As a user attempts to download a particular song, they
might download some content from one of these sneaky sources, and unexpected
content would be inserted into the final assembled mp3 file. I'm sure we've
all had this experience with regard to music shared on p2p services (my
downloaded copy of Ovalprocess is far more interesting than the one I later
purchased, as it is filled with short snippets of house and country music).
These random mashups could then (possibly) spread from user to user,
creating more iterations and variations of the original document.
Any thoughts?
