as I see it yes. locating events/subjects in such a timeline (however
abstract) allows us some focus and clarity in a discourse where
words/language refer to too much/not enough.

nope. in the sense that "what we are talking about" becomes formed, or
"there" - we all perceive the same subject, and agree upon it
linguistically. but that slip in language is what I am getting at.
(there is also "conrete poetry" for example. how do we relate the two
different forms? how does this metaphor work?)
these "questions" I am posing are rhetorical and open ended. I am
looking for some sorts of answers myself, and am sure there are more
than one.
(how to answer the question "what kind of music is this?"
in "real" words?)
