[microsound] suggestion for improving signal to noise

just another suggestion to allow people to choose 
event/playlist/release posts or not... Ask people posting this material 
to preface it with [Playlist] or [Event] or [New Release] in the 
subject line - then list members can set autofilters to deal with these 
posts how they so desire. The main issue is discriminating such 
announcement posts from discursive ones . I realise this doesn't help 
digest subscribers, but its an option that could be pursued if you set 
your subscription to individual posts.

As I see it, the problem with the list seems to stem from its 
popularity, ie people want to use it for all aspects of their operation 
in a community (discussion + self- promotion, business activity,  and 
so on...). The net result is that once the subscription base gets 
beyond a certain level, the list becomes like a really crowded, noisy 
party, where you can't make out what anyone is saying unless they are 
screaming in your ear....
