well, now it's time to start _doing_ the stuff you've read about.

You should definitely read about different synthesis techniques
especially in the digital domain.

not at all. However, if you intend to use Pd or some other synthesis
'programming' language, having a little understanding of programming
logic won't hurt. But you will probably learn all you need within the
soft synth.

Sure. head on to csound.com and look over the tutorials. csound
behaves in a very similar way a modular synth would, except you have
to type everything. All you need is a basic understanding of how to
pass audio and control signals around and how to drive all that with a
score.

You should probably look into supercollider, too, but it could
be a bit overwhelming at the beginning.

I think you will feel more at home with Pd, as it gives you a visual
representation of what you're doing. Pd is not nearly as well
documented as csound and doesn't have as many pre-made generators but
is a lot of fun nevertheless (and, in certain circumstances, more
flexible). The mailing list is very friendly and helpful so it's easy to fill the
missing bits of information.

good luck
