Re: [microsound] Re: on working methods for live performance
the only problem is, this is a mailing list for people who are already 'in the know' as far as electronic music is concerned. in the real world, there are all kinds of people in the audience and while those of us who really care about the music can appreciate it no matter what the performer is doing, it may be a bit more difficult for a casual listener to appreciate a live show when they are under the impression that the performer is doing none of the work (at the moment) to make this music. i mean i was once a cynic myself, someone would play me a happy hardcore record and i would say damn, this is bullshit. of course over the years i found there was much more to electronic music than bs techno, but it took me years to be able to apreciate it all.
so i guess my only point is, electronic music err .. computer music hasnt become established well enough for the casual listener to say holy shit those generative algorithems are really rockin my socks, we can say that .. but i dont think we can yet expect others to .. and until then, i would rather do my best to put on a show that will bring non belivers into the fold, not make cynics out of them.
and yes i agree people should be able to JUST listen to the music, but the world is a screwd up place.
