You might be interested in a project I did earlier this year for the Museum
of Contemporary Art Denver (I'm performing it again in October at the
Interactive Media Forum at Miami University
http://student.sba.muohio.edu/ims/conference/speakers3.htm).

I scanned the covers and text of some lurid vintage paperbacks and converted
the resulting BMP and TXT files to audio. As I recall, the text conversions
were done with Go Minimal.
