[microsound] [ot] Google indexing post-mortem

In the process of providing search capabilties for the list archive, I
learned a bit about how Google works that may be of use to someone:

After a month of waiting, I finally found a place on the Google site
where one could enter a URL, with no guarantee that Google's bots would
visit.

After a second month, I realized that Google had long ago indexed my
page on installing Bill Orcutt's nyptho/python external for Max/MSP, but
nothing else except my homepage.

So Google seems to be very selective about what it indexes, down to the
page level on a site. If there aren't any links to your page, you're
dead I guess.

So I was in a Catch-22 where no one could use the archive without search
capabilties, but Google wouldn't visit because no one had linked to it
because it didn't have search capabilties...

Best,

Tad
