[microsound] Re: sampling



When I got started in sampling other people's music, I
couldn't really justify  my musicianship if the source
of the sample was most interesting thing about it.

So, for the last several years, I've tried to avoid
using recognizeable samples. When I look for records
and cd's to use, I specifically look for things that
will allow me to sample individual notes from
relatively unprocessed solo instruments. That way,
using them for music is more of a building blocks
approach than pop culture reference.

This year I've switched musical focus...now I still
sample, but under the broader definition of "recording
and playback". I've been playing more solo drum
machine, processing it with effects and sampling it
simultaneously with different devices. examples are at
