Re: [microsound] the evolution of experimental music distribution

being a record collector for many, many years this would be tragic to me....

I believe there is a Cage quote concerning the "illusion of ownership" which arises as a result of the physical music format.

.... and the fact that most of the people that listen to
experimental music are composers as well.... not all... but most... do
composers support other artists as much as people who are just fans of the
music?

Maybe it wouldnt be such a bad thing if the borders between listener and artist become blurred. When I want to listen to music I usually turn on the pc and play an improvised performance, not even recording the output.

that's nice for those who want to do that, and being a musician i can do that too. fun programs like fruity loops and interactive remix technology put such things in the reach of more people. but what if you just want to enjoy music, art, performance, without having to be an active part of it (other than paying attention and wherever your mind goes with it)? i breathe, sleep, live making and pushing my own music almost every moment of my life. it's nice to forget about that and just experience what others have created.
