Re: [microsound] the great depression of experimental music?

Yeah. it's been a real downer, which is part of what
some may see as absurd and unecesary cynicism in my
earlier posts. Anomalous (first the distro and now the
label), world serpent (distro and label and sweeping
out all of its various artist fronted sublabels), the
major distributor in Germany (can't think of the name
off the top of my head) which eventually led to the
collpase of the mille plateau family, etc., etc., etc.
Part of me is sympathetic with people thinking
everything should be boiled down to the non-consumer,
free-form community/folk art standard, but I can't
help but imagine that all the hundreds and perhaps
thousands of artists affected by the above have felt a
definite shrinkage in their 'community'. With these
things collapsing, it has actually now been made more
difficult for those artists to share a lot of their
work woth a good portion of the world. maybe its
temporary? maybe the mp3 revolution has already wept
them under the rug?
