[microsound] Richard Chartier in Seattle (better than Merzbow) ;-)

Well, I just saw Richard Chartier perform a beautiful, yet uncharacteristicly loud
and fierce set here in the Jet City.

Richard managed to start off his set with much subtle finesse amidst the loud and inconsiderate surroundings, then later, in response to the inappropriate and obnoxious environment, ended it with sheer voluminous power (while always in good
taste, imho). To be honest, if Merzbow's work sounded like this, perhaps I would listen to
it more often... :-)

What little I witnessed of this so called "First Annual Electronic Music
Festival" (otherwise known as "Decibel"), was the equivalent of a backwater bar gig full of
drunken Neanderthals yelling and barking, and doing so in the case of Chartier, because
they didn't understand minimal electronic music without beats and the usual sample-
based cliches, nor could they understand that people paid money to come and
actually LISTEN to it.

Outside of that, I highly recommmend that people see Chartier's performances when
he comes to your town because all things considered, his performance tonight was still
one of the best I've seen in quite a long time. I hope he does come back, but of course,
performing within a completely different context!

Ok, I'm done praising and ranting. Goodnight.
