Re: [microsound] Re: digital folk music --was Re: barcode MIDI
this argument is clogging my inbox so here's my 50 yen's worth .
it's about 'performance' in terms of entertainment, there are lots of
really dull rock/pop/hiphop acts out there - perhaps some of us need to
think outside of the box in terms of making you're show more
interesting. i saw a 'laptop' performance the other day feat peter
cusack/viv corringham, that was more intersting than watching someone
with 'hair', 'makeup' and 'prancing' on stage.
he had customised a turkish lute with a sort of midi control (i
think), and they were performing 'folk music' .
visually the worlds your oyster in this day of technology, i guess it
comes down to how creative you are with what you've got.
about live:
i like live but at the end of the day it's just a tool, I THINK it's the
end product that matters, i mean the 'process' of making it is cool but
in terms of art 'process' very '60's innit.
anyway all this talk of perfomance reminds me of a supercollider gig
went to a while back, with jamie liddell dreesed in a black bin liner
and homemade headgear.....
