Yes, you definitely can. I used Live for several beatless tracks on my new
CD. I would load in long sound clips (one to two minutes long) that I
created in other programs, and although they were looped in live, they
certainly weren't "loops."

I think Live's soundscape generating capabilities generaly go unmentioned,
since it's so good at the loop stuff; but what you can do with beatless
material is really impressive.

I really love Live, and don't believe one bit that it somehow makes
everything sound the same. A dozen people all playing stratocasters will
all sound different, and a dozen people using Live will all sound
different. Does Live make it _easier_ to create loop-based techno? Sure,
of course it does. Does it force you to do this? No way.
