my on the spot holiday list of things that made this year work for me.  
as i think of it.....

1 - unclassifiable vacation to london/paris.  wonderful to get out of 
the us for the first time in 2 years.  international life is a breath 
of very fresh air.  loads of good things.

2 - sculpture.  giuseppe penone retrospective @ pompidou.  akio suzuki 
@ osip zaldkine in paris.  "treble" @ sculpture center nyc.  in general 
a good year for me and capital-A Art.  saw loads of good (cy twombly 
new show @ gagosian london) and questionable work (i've never really 
been into most of the YBA thing).  began a study of sculpture for 
myself.  richard serra! joseph beuys!

3 - digital camera.  very handy.  very much worth the money.  1500 
pictures kept since june.

4 _music_ - "january" taylor deupree / "discrete moments" john tilbury 
+ eddie prevost / "every action" motion / "+ minus" & "message urgent" 
bernhard gunter et al / "variations: movement in chrome primitive" wm. 
basinski / "terrorbird" the mae-shi / studio one dub / "hashirigaki" 
heiner goebbels / chris newman / "fft pop" mokira (easily his best) / 
japanese free improv in general has kept me listening (taku sugimoto, 
tetuzi akiyama etc etc etc i love these new guitar players and their 
equally imaginative playing partners) / philip corner / sebastian roux 
live @ slow sound (free download!) / "GIT" the skeletons / steve roden 
in general.

playing in glenn branca's 100 guitar symphony. wow.

sadly not playing out much in the last six months.

occasionally getting that feeling of treading water.  or being in the 
wrong pool.  crossing my fingers it is really the ocean.

some movies - eternal sunshine / five obstructions / dogville / brown 
bunny / in a year of 13 moons (i know it is about 25 years old but i 
just saw it this year ok?)
