Re: [microsound] wave field synthesis

This can only work up to some low frequency based on the distance between the speakers.
To create an illusion of a point source you'd need a speaker every half wavelength wouldn't you?
That'd be every 6.7 inches (17 cm) for 1000 Hz.

Marije Baalmaan gave a demo of her Wave Field Synthesis work at the Linux Audio Conference last spring. I thought it might be interesting to pass on to the list for folks interested in ambisonics and audio spatialization. The system uses an array of speakers to precisely position a sound in the room, *regardless* of the position of the listener. This makes it far more advanced than most other spatialization systems, which rely on the listener staying in the so-called "sweet spot" in order to to hear the proper effects.
