That's because you're not making art with that light. If you were, you might think of it very differently. If music is wallpaper for you, then a more in-depth analysis and a deeper listening based on its history and technique would be the farthest thing from your mind. You probably just want a mood, or want to party. I find this "musical wallpaper" attitude to be most associated with pop and club music, where the sound is meant as a kind of background environment, and often doesn't really reward a deeper listening.
