Re: [microsound] London project and the media

It is important to realize that to those in government, especially those in charge of government policy, the dead and maimed innocents on the streets of London and Madrid and New York are "collateral damage", just as are those on the streets of Baghdad and Fallujah and Kabul. The spanish people were confronted with a terrorist atrocity in the form of the attack on Madrid last year, they reacted by throwing out of office the politicians whose policies had exposed them to the danger in the first place.

peter i disagree with what you express here.
too often the lives of those that america kills aren't even presented as victims
in the american media.
bringing together a memorial for the dead in baghdad along with
the dead in londan seems very fitting and appropriate, and can highlight that difference.

You could propose a Baghdad project yourself.
It is a worthy subject but seems an inappropriate comment to a sympathetic response of solidarity to what's just happened here.

It's not about who has the most dead but how we can respond to human tragedy caused by misdirected and counter productive anger.

As with all cities there is so much sonic identity here so maybe through this artist process we can make healing connections.

hi,
why isn't there a Baghdad project? More than 20000 civilians allready have been killed since 2003! I guess a lot of them have been killed by terrorists also.

in the same spirit as last year's Madrid project I am proposing a new project dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the bombing that took place in London yesterday. Political statements are welcome!
We can now use the Hotline server again for depositing sound files -- it seems to have been fixed by Eric.
Caveat: I am out of town until next Tuesday so I cannot assign pswd's until then. Maybe people can start creating pieces in the meantime. Any web page designers out there want to lend a hand in putting together a page and graphics for the project?
