[microsound] lynx et al

well I'm not sure how the rumor of 'no links allowed' came about and this is all news to me...what I did ban was shameless self-promotion by people who don't contribute to the list but who blindly use the list as a free kiosk for posting CD's and concert announcements...this is not productive to building our community and I see this as really rude behavior...

again, a rule of thumb:
this list (and the microsound community) is like a bank in that you can take stuff from it ONLY if you contribute to its growth and activity...if this means you want to post a link, share some music and get feedback for discussion then this is exactly what the community is based on: sharing information and energy...no-one ever said this was verboten...BUT...
if you want to get more people to your gigs or buy your new CD by taking treating our email list as FREE advertising and don't want to add to the community then the announcement list is for you...you can post announcements about your new whiz-bang revolutionary glitch CD, your concerts at Mutek, Ars Electronica or Sonor or whatever and you don't have to contribute to any discussion or contribute any work towards building our community with ideas and content...no fuss, no muss and no dirt under the fingernails! ;)

please remember that the 'no-advertising rule' came about as a *response to the community* -- many microsound members complained and ASKED me to enforce this -- it is not something I dreamt up and enforced willy-nilly...but I don't agree with the opintion that the list is the same as before this rule went into effect...I think the lack of shameless wham-bam advertising has rekindled the spirit of the list: that of open discussion concerning aesthetic and political issues having to do with microsound...

anyway, I'm also excited that people are planning a summer project! please feel free to make use of the TWiki (note to Graham Miller w/r/t not knowing what a TWiki is: TWiki is really VERY simple and I think that even somebody at your level of computer skills could figure it out)
....and also would someone (also) ask Eric <eric@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> to fix the damn hotline server?! I'll Cc him on this post...

peace
the mgmt
