Great not because of duration, but because any device that uses
replaceable/changeable standard batteries (instead of internal and/or
proprietary) is good for field recordists -- you can then carry extra
and/or replace them in a pinch easily.

A big problem with devices that would otherwise be very attractive for
portable recording (eg iPods now quietly advertising "stereo 44.1 KHz"
voice recording; M-Audio microtracker...) are proprietary batteries. Even
for a relatively short trip (eg rafting down the grand canyon for 14 days)
having no way to recharge is a huge problem -- esp. if your device is
providing power to your mics. :/

Still one reason I recommend HiMD (uncompressed 44.1 KHZ 16bit) to people;
the battery consumption is unrivaled and now that you can freely upload
your own recordings over USB it's not as painful... :).
