Re: [microsound] visual artists

When I lived in chicago I participated in a series of 'Laptronica' events
where we duked it out between groups of laptop musicians improvising back
and forth. I've got it on VHS!

The 'WWF' type theme was more influential on the game aspect of it, but the
music as a whole ended up being one of the most unique nights of music and
theater I've been a part of. There were 'straight ahead' bits of dance and
electronica mixed with just as much noise and glitch, all of it very
intertwined due to the trade-off, cage-match style of the evening.

Its success was most certainly in the more social, 'folk' elements of the
presentation, merging a lot of popular culture references with the esoteric
edges of electronic music, which in itself I think opened a lot of people's
ears that night.
