Had a similar experience, a friend let some friends and I in and we had it
to ourselves for an hour or so last year. My favorite part of that was
closing my eyes and crawling around on all fours, negotiating the
environment purely by changes in standing waves. It felt very much like
what it might be to inhabit an alien species that lived in a very
different environment. Took me right back to the Piers Anthony Cluster
series really.

Also fun was lying down with eyes closed and having my friends creep
around me, and trying to track them purely through the changes in sound
taht accompanied their acoustic "shadows" as they blocked direct and
reflected tones.

Wasn't so keen on his wife's Flavin-esque work for itself, but I did like
the way it and the window gels conditioned the whole environment. It
wouldn't have been the same if it was just empty rooms with raw ambient
light. I think.

 best,
  aaron
