[microsound] field recording equipment
in keeping with the birdsongs thread........
perhaps this question has been posted to the list in the past, but: what
are microsounder's preferred methods of field recording? i'm looking for a
small setup for around $100-$300, and perhaps more if microphones could
serve in-studio purposes as well. i think a quick rundown and comparison of
products for portable recording (tape recorder, minidisk, etc) and mic
types/brands would be in order. i would say my primary concerns in this
area would be having wide stereo recordings, a good field of sound reception
over a fairly decent distance (say, a block or two), and a good frequency
response. overall quality or tape hiss would be minor, and possibly a good
thing given the right hiss. also, although ease of transfer isn't a primary
concern, the recording device has to have some sort of output other than a
built-in speaker, for obvious quality reasons. so those are my
"constraints".. apologies if this question has been previously answered, a
quick link to a guide or two would help. thanks
greg
