Re: [microsound] Social Networking sites for music
i've used pandora, but not last.fm, and i've only used pandora for listening to music; i haven't put any on the site, if that's even possible. its accuracy in matching music genres is ok/acceptable. when i typed in "pete seeger" it gave me a bunch of pretty good folk and folk/rock artists, mixed in with some lame singer/songwriter crap. results were more mixed when i typed in "venetian snares." this resulted in a variety of electronic music ranging from autechre, to kruder and dorfmeister, to trance, to more minimal techno and microsound type stuff. i didn't think this was a very accurate match. the last time i used it was several months ago, though so it may have been improved by now.
