Re: [microsound] Getting started

also consider that max and pd are very similar, but max has better documentation, which can be very helpful, especially if you learn from scratch without workshops etc. if you're as student, then max is priced ok, otherwise it's a bit expensive.

i personally prefer max-msp-jitter over reaktor. i found reaktor very cpu intensive and i understood max a lot better from the start, i think because of the documentation and the fact that you always need to know what you're doing.

max and pd are also very extendible, which makes for a lot of extra features made by 3rd parties.

super collider and chuck are text based, which is a different way of working, but also very nice.
super collider is more mature than chuck.

have fun choosing : )

Reaktor: good for starters, very accessible, good library of examples.
If you want to start making music NOW, this is the one.
PD: a little bit more complicated but is worth the time if you have
it, and it's FREE. You would need to know a little bit more in depth
about signal processing and it will take you a little bit to get to do
what you want.

The disadvantage of Pd and SuperCollider or so is, that you need to
learn a bit more about things like signal processing, composition,
math, programming, etc.

Because what you learn becomes *your* knowledge afterwards and nobody
can take it away from you again, even if you decide to use a
completely different software or none at all later. These tools let
you learn principles and methods, not only where to click.

Just my 2ct.
