Re: [microsound] Call for Work: Queer Experimental Sound
Hi all,
sorry for starting all this. It was a knee jerk reaction, and I had a few
drinks, I apologize as I came across as a bit of an asshole(clearly) and was
starting something I had know interest in finishing or devoting more time
to. Even at the time I didn't mean to be such an ass, it just was worded
that way.
a few things briefly, I know we could go on debating this forever, and it
can be interesting but I don't really have the time (again, i shouldn't have
brought it up) But I assure you I am not trying to get the last word in, I
respect you opinions, even in my own there are a lot of gray areas.
That said, I don't really disagree with with what I said, but this just
seemed very unnecessary. Why ? well for one the art is being identified as
"Queer" firstly, so that is it's primary goal, art is an after thought. To
me this rings more of Art Therapy than anything else. Not a bad thing just
something I don't care to see and the focus is on healing not art.
The other problem, and this was what my reaction was based on without
reading the full message is. To me, the experimental arts is the last place
we would need something specifically "queer." Usually at least half of the
artists i've been around have been gay, I have no problem with it, but art
that's centered on that I often can't relate to. Again, that was my
reaction before I read the whole thing, it's probably a fine organization. I
just found it a bit like asking for contributions to an all black hip-hop
comp.
Again, sorry, I appreciate art, but not something labled "straight art" or
"queer art" if your sexual preference solely defines who you are or the art
you make then I'm probably not interested, and that's clearly just my
opinion. And I'm not accusing this event as even promoting that-- that was
just my initial impression.
I just don't care about your sexual preference when I experience your art.
i'm giving up now, too many tangents.
sorry for starting this!
really apologies to Ethan.
