Re: [microsound] anyon heard or seen of this - tenori-on

The only real extra feature it brings to the table from a monome is that it comes with sounds, and you can upload your own sounds via smartcard. Question for yamaha, why is the only way to upload sound to the device via an out of date standard?. It has become increasingly harder to find smar meida cards for sale, esp higher (128mb) capacity models.

Now if you could manipulate and change the sounds/add fx, then we'd be talking... But for the money...it's just not worth it...they are afterall practically hand made. I would like to hold one to see how it feels. But for a straight up controller...not worth it. Although it is instantly gratifying since it works out of the box.

BTW.. I saw Bodzin play a monome and a lemur on stage a few weeks ago..it's amazing...now what does he use to make his sounds? That's a topic for another thread...

Peace!

This product was just featured in Future Music Magazine. Seems the advertising department over at Yamaha is drumming up as much attention for this as possible. Hints at major mass production to me. I still like the Monome personally. I also find the JazzMutant Dexter and Lemur products to be of much interest in the higher end controller market.

To this end, I wish I had more money to move beyond a drumpad controller and a 49 key controller. I am now accepting donations though. Please remit payment to.... ;p

well, this isn't OpenSource for one thing, like the Monome products are (monome.org). Also, it doesn't use OSC protocol. So, a disadvantage for sure. They are being hand-assembled at the moment, and the UK selling of them is supposedly a test run of sorts. If it does well, Yamaha has hinted that the market will be open at the US for a lower price (because it will move beyond the hand-assembled phase). There is a great discussion over at Create Digital Music about all this...
