Re: [microsound] midi controller surface/mixer for Logic

The Akai MPK49 looks like a sturdier, more grown up ReMOTE 49. Except
without the Automap. But it's very tempting nonetheless.

Doesn't help that the CME Bitstream 3X came across my radar last night -
this box appears to offer the user the most in-depth functionality, as in
it allows one to map any plugin or sequencer parameter to just about any
knob. There's even software available that gives one Mackie Control
Universal emulation (minus some obvious features... like V-Pots and
whatsuch) which might come in handy...

The only thing is that it may be too much like hard work trying to get to
know this box expertly (a steep, infinitely rising learning curve appears
to await those brave enough to tackle it).

Any user views on the Bitstream 3X ?

Thanks
bp

Hey Brian,

I personally hate the Novation ReMOTE. Sure they are sturdy, come with a
good amount of knobs and faders, and the XY touchpad is funky, except that
to turning automap off is a huge pain in the ass. To turn off automap,
there
is a multistep function for each and every asignable button. I don't
understand how they couldn't have thought to include an automap off.
Finding
out on their website how to turn it off is very time consuming and
ambiguous
too.

I just saw Akai's new midi controller, I haven't actually used it yet, and
sadly, it's a bit pricey, but it comes with cool features. Knobs and
faders,
mpc-style drum buttons, a keyboard, etc, all the usual stuff, plus it comes
with a built in arpeggiator, which (as I said I haven't tried it out yet,
so
not sure how good or useful it is..) http://www.akaipro.com/prodMPK49.php
the
website will have all the specs.

Boris
