Re: [microsound] Eindhoven

We went to Eindhoven today & visited the van Abbe museum.
Got to talking with a guy who told us how Art should be essential to our lives & not just interesting, entertaining or even educational. He said artists should be getting more involved in providing all people access to their art and learn how to appreciate it, not just the people in the know. He also thought everyone's an artist deep down, my friend told him he thinks there are too many of them already. As most people on this list make music that would be considered by most audiences as 'art music' and thus unaccessible music, not meant for them, I would like to throw a little pebble in the pond.

How essential is your music?
Do you care?
Do you care if people understand what you are trying to do?
Does it matter who's giving the opinion? ( I ,mean do some people's opinions carry more weight than other people's? - I would say yes, certainly) Do you make an effort to get your music heard beyond the small crowd of illuminati? Do you believe your art/music could make a difference if more people where exposed to it? As they say overhere - one nut can ask more questions than a hundred wise men can answer.
Looking forward to any replies.

Groeten, babilano
