oh...

>did anyone else:
>1) find the 20' to 2000 'campaign' ridiculous

I'm split on this issue. I decided to get a subscription for the
whole series last year and the main thing i was sort of peeved
about was the fact that each 20-minute disc was like full price!
In retrospect, i'd say the set as a whole is about 50/50 for me.
I loved the Wolfgang Voight release, and think it's some of the
best material WV has released under the Gas name (although that
exclusive track on Oktember is smokin'!)
I also like the Coil, Senking, Beytone, Scanner and Brinkmann.
The stuff i didn't really take to was the ilpo vaisanen and mika
vainio (pan sonic) releases, perhaps they should have both worked
on one installment instead of two? The Komet, Noto, and Ikeda
editions were decent but not spectacular, imo.
So i guess what i'm trying to say is that out of about 4 hours
of music released in that series, only about half of it was worth
it to me. So i paid around 150$ for about 2 hours of good music.
Steep indeed, and from a marketing perspective, they made a
killing. I've seen the whole set, holding module included, sell
for that exact price on Ebay.

>2) find the concept of 'limited release' remarkably
> compatible with other forms of bourgeois consumption

I think plenty of good points have been made on this topic
already, and again, i'm feeling divided. On the one hand, if an
artist is not well-known there isn't really much of a point to
press up (and pay for) more copies then are needed. They lose
money by making up too many and the extras end up collecting
dust somewhere. On the other hand when someone intentionally
only presses up a certain number of releases when they have pretty
good evedence that they'll sell out immediately, well they
shouldn't complain when they hear about people trading that stuff
on CDRs, because that's what usually ends up happening (i'm not
	saying that's 'right' either).

one more thing, i've posted a review of the new Tetsu Inoue
collab with C.U.E. and Daimon Beail at the Inoue Homepage
	(URL in sig below)
It's a pretty successful fusion of environmental and microsonic
styles, although it's heavier environmental aspect. Simply click
on 'discography' and then scroll to 'Other Collaborations' and
goto the album title "AUDIO" hope you like it.
