Re: [microsound] np: temporary contemporary

<<if "hot desking" is what i THINK you mean,
and if im correct in analyzing his performance, as it was described to me, i
think hes taken music and architecture (the interior of the "desk") to its
end.>>

the Wire article is actually in issue 197 (the Anti-Pop Consortium cover) and
the article on Toshi is indeed very good. he plays what he calls a "no-input
mixing board", and he describes how it operates this way:

"If you connect the output of the mixing board to the input, it's going to
make a loop, it's going to feed back. If you don't control it, it's going to
get bigger and bigger until it becomes a huge, harsh noise. So you use subtle
movements to control the feedback. Every signle knob on the mixing desk that
you shift varies the sound. You can even play melodies if you like."

I'm releasing a CD of the duo of Nakamura and Sachiko M. on my label sometime
in the first half of 2001. I've been playing it very loud all week, and it
can be pretty disorienting and draining to listen to. the focus and discipline
that the two maintain through a improvised 40 minute piece is almost
inhuman, really impressive.

Nakamura also has a solo CD out soon on Zero Gravity, and Sachiko has a solo
CD also out soon on Namskeio. and if you haven't heard her 3 inch on FMN,
it's pretty essential.

the Lopez disc on Alien8 isn't out yet. how does the triple 3 inch Karkowski
on Firework Edition compare to the superb one he just released on Mego?
