one reason MAY be, that you're actually dealing with the artist's manager.
it would be easy to write these off as 'greedy bastards', but their salary
is usually a percentage from the artist's payroll so...  (ok, so this
doesn't really explain the hotel rooms)

it also seems that the amount of requests (ranging from 'ok...' to
'impossible') is equal to the 'seriousness' of the manager (and the artist).
and no, i don't really agree with this kind of thinking.

it's all about adjusting. i work as a freelancer (mixing exgineer/musician),
so getting some of the money to MY pocket is an important issue. have to pay
the rent and all that. but i also like to do some things for purely
'artistic' reasons. also helps to keep you sane... :)  usually no money from
these. that's fine. sometimes, maybe once or twice a year, these two things
even exist in the same place.

i don't know, yesterday i heard that a friend of mine is doing a music for
dance piece and wants me to record it. we have a big budget for 30mins of
music. on the other hand, i'm going to mix a tour (ruins touring finland
with circle) for pizza a day (our exact agreement). both make me very happy.
