Re: [microsound] oval & christophe charles

as i mentioned before, the work that i have heard of christophe charles is usually lengthy sections of environmental recordings, bells, wood, wind and other random or semi-random (in a VERY Cagean sense) sources. to say that he leaves them unprocessed is a bit of an exaggeration, though... there is a lot of subtle mixing, and for live events and installations he tends to set up systems which allow the sounds to be spacially located in interesting ways. very minimal, still, and very un-digital. i actually didn't know that 'dok' was at least in some part charles' work as well. i'll have to track it down. look for charles' other stuff if yoiu have a chance, maybe staalplat has something in their back catalog....

derek
