and this is the key difference between our viewpoints: you see the 
process of maintaining and building upon a physical skill-set as a 
constraint, whereas I see it as a liberation.  there's room for both of 
us in the same way that there's room for Fripp, Al DiMeola and Neil 
Young.  (there's no room for Yngwie Malmsteen.)

you could perhaps view what I am hoping to do as an extended laptop 
technique... applying the control processes of the past to the 
completely open world of laptop noise.

anyway, who knows where it all will lead.  I certainly don't.
