This is being a very informative thread on performance issues, but what
I'm sensing is the absence of those cultural intermediaries/managers, so
much a part of today's daily life.

What of the nightclub/discotheque owners, gallery curators, and concert
and festival programmer/prdducers?

One would think these middle people could work to create a context for
the performances they contract for. My sense of the anecdotal accounts
so far is that the performer has been left to him/herself while the king
is in the counting house...

Any comments or stories?
